The How To..
Here's What's Said In The Video..
To setup Windows Live Mail is actually considerably difficult because..well it can be considerably difficult because there are so many variations.
I will step you through the simplest process and I will attempt to explain to you in a simple way more advanced processes for if the simple approach doesn't work for you.
So open Windows Live Mail.
And go to Accounts.
And click the Add Email button.
And where it asks for your email address type in the email address.
And then your password.
And then pop in the name that you would like the recipients of your emails to see.
Then hit Next.
Now here it's immediately gone to the more advanced method.
So most of the time now, email accounts are IMAP.
So choose IMAP.
Bigpond is still POP but most other email accounts are IMAP so you can safely choose IMAP there.
Now most server addresses are mail. and then my email address is rwilson at nimblenerds.com.au so I'm going to go mail.nimblenerds.com.au and then the same thing for the server address.
And tick requires authentication.
So if your email address is at gmail.com go mail.gmail.com and the same for the outgoing server information as well as the server address.
If you'd like to double check what your IMAP address is, as well as your outgoing which is called SMTP, open a web browser.
And go to google.
And then I'm going to type in 'gmail imap settings'.
And then click the result.
And then go 'I want to enable IMAP'.
And it's for Windows Mail.
So this is actually telling us how to setup the account so go OK confirm my settings.
Now theirs isn't mail.gmail.com, it's actually imap.gmail.com.
So for gmail I would need to pop in imap.gmail.com and I would also need to change the port to 993.
Now I would also need to click the SSL, requires a secure connection.
But mine doesn't require those details so I'm just going to leave it as it is.
And then click Finish.
And if you've got all the details of your incoming and outgoing mail server correct then your email account will connect.
If you're definite that these details are correct and you're still unable to login, then try to make sure you have entered your username and password correctly.
